Shooting Day 1 Evaluation (Monday)

Updated: Feb 24, 2020

Today me and my client finally ended up heading out to film the outdoor part of the music video, the weather was kept being dry but heavy heavy spells of rain but we both agreed that shooting outside would be the best thing for the look of the video. We met up at the park which is fairly in the middle to where both of us live to make travel easier and as soon as we started getting the first couple of shots it started pouring down. I remembered there is a band stand in the park so we headed over just for shelter originally but when I got there I thought it would be a better location for the shots that were supposed to be in Sharon's car. After thinking about it for a second I decided to use the area in and around the band stand for most of today's shoot as it was a perfect looking area for this part of the music video (and Sharon liked the flowers). I was really worried before hand about how the weather conditions might mean we couldn't shoot at all but through both of us pulverisation we have been able to get some good quality footage. As I have mentioned before if I was going to shoot outdoors again especially in winter I would definitely have an appropriate indoor back up location for if we couldn't shoot outside.

Aside from the rain it was also bitterly cold which really didn't help as it was my first time with the gimbal and my hands were going numb which resulted in making some of the shots shaky. I did however do each shot a number of times and I feel their are only a couple of shots that might need some stabilisation in post but they should be fixable. Overall I did struggle with using the gimbal as I found it had a lot modes that were easily turned on by a light press of the wrong button, I also found pressing any of the buttons on my camera to be difficult while using the gimbal as well. It was however my first time using it on a proper though shoot and despite my struggles with it I do see how effective it can be when it comes to getting really steady moving shots. In the end I think I just need to get used to using the gimbal and take it out from uni more so in time I will get better at using it.

After the shoot I wiped all the equipment down to make sure it was dry and made sure everything is charged up. I have also re balanced my camera on the gimbal so now all the equipment is fresh and ready for tomorrows shoot.
