Filming day 2 Evaluation (Tuesday)

Updated: Feb 27, 2020

Yesterday we filmed the main bits of the music video we had a local theatre booked out for two hours in the morning and had to get everything done in that time as I did not have enough time before my deadline to book another session at the theatre. This was the first issue, luckily however I was able to get one of my class colleagues to help out allowing me to record two angels at the same time in places as he also bought his camera meaning we had two cameras for this shoot. I was at first very unsure of shooting this close to my deadline but it was all the time the theatre could offer us. Having my colleague helping out though massively sped up the process as not only did we have an extra camera I also had a second opinion on the shots and weather I needed to re shoot anything or not so that now the footage is exactly what I need and re shoots wont be needed. I feel I dealt with the time issue in the right way in getting someone into help and I would definitely do this again if I was pushed for time on a shoot.

Another issue that having a colleague into help out helped with was that I was feeling quite unwell when I woke up in the morning before the shoot. I had to consider weather I was even going to be able to attend but despite being late I persevered and got the shoot done. Having someone else helping allowed me to focus on what shots I needed to get and at points I would tell him the shots and he would direct them as due to being unwell I couldn't do everything. I think my illness has been caused a lot by my stressing out about getting this shoot right and I am much happier now I have a lot of good quality footage to work with.

The final thing I struggled with was again like the first shoot was the gimbal, I was having some issues calibrating the gimbal and because of that it stopped focusing on the things I wanted it to and it started drifting. To combat this issue I had to quickly give up on it as I didn't have time to take a proper look at it however I did bring a tripod which I quickly switched to. The result of this is that some of the shots are not as fluid as I would like them to be but it meant I did have enough time to get all the shots I needed and have enough time to get good quality shots. I felt I had to do this as I really did not have the time to look at the gimbal before it started playing up I was able to get some close ups however so it wasn't completely useless. I think in the future I need to do a lot more testing with the gimbal before I take it out on a proper shoot as I am not confident enough in my ability to use it.

In conclusion despite a number of struggles on the shooting day I was able to get the footage I needed and I am confident I can now go and put a good edit together.
