I just had my first meeting with Sharon Martin who I knew very little about before the meeting only that she was performer who was looking to have a music video made. Over the hour meeting we discussed what sort of video she wanted, some restrictions, purposes, timescales but we mainly looked at her ideas of what she wanted the video to convey. It was quickly apart that a Narrative video is what she is looking for as Sharon said she already has live music videos and a couple of narrative ones but is looking to improve on those. She is looking for the video to go alongside and promote the release of her new song which is called Half Shame and Half Glory. She described the genre of her music as Folk/singer-songwriter and has given me some artists within the genre (Catherine Rudie, Josienne Clarke) with videos that she likes I will research these videos and take influence when planning out Sharon's video. As for timescales and locations, Sharon is looking to have the video fully finished by the end of January but I think this might be a push with the other shoots I have coming up soon as well. We also briefly started thinking about locations as one of the ideas we do have is having her performing on a stage and having a full crowd slowly disappearing until it is just her playing on stage. We are strongly looking at the Arts centre in Taunton as a possible location for this as Sharon is playing a gig there on Friday and is hoping in return they will let us use the venue for our shoot. Aside from the video I also looked at ways of expanding Sharon's brand and she said that she felt being on spotify would be really good for her but she is unsure how to put her music on there so this is something else I am going to look into for her. My next steps are to go and listen to Sharon's song and take some meaning from the lyrics then go and research those similar artists videos and then put both my research and my interpretations into a storyboard and then get Sharon's opinion on it.
