Prior to the event I was searching around to find some more details and it turned out the main band of the night was Michael Eavis and his band (Eavis being the founder of Glastonbury festival). I was only aware of this the day before the shoot as Music Expo just said that it was a charity gig in bath. Knowing more about the event and knowing what a good opportunity this would be for networking made me both nervous and excited at the same time. Me and Alex both took our own cameras and I also bought my tripod and mic, when looking at pictures of the location online we did not think lights would be necessary. On arrival to the event half an hour before hand it was a bit different to how I had thought it would be (but in a good way) as there was a lot more space than I thought there was going to be. I had Alex's camera on my tripod getting a constant wide shot from the back of the room, I also put the mic on his camera as I wanted that camera to be kept constantly recording. I then used my camera to float around the room and capture close up shots of the band, this is something me and Alex took turns doing so someone would be getting the long shot and the other would be getting the close up and vise versa. We did have a few issues the first being the night lasted longer then we expected it to meaning by the end of the night all the camera batteries we bought were dead. The event was around 4 hours in total and by the end we were down to just my camera so in a break I put the mic on my camera. The last performer however did not stay on the stage and kept moving around out of the cameras view so I went handheld with my camera for the last performance. I feel this helped me from a confidence point of view as at the start I wasn't getting as close as I could have with the camera but by the end I was taking our only footage of the last performance so I had to get in close in order to get footage of the lead singer. The second issue we had was I had changed my settings to 60fps before the shoot and for some reason because of this my camera would not aloud me to record in the AVCHD format only mp4 meaning mine and Alex's cameras are filming in different formats. I am still currently unaware what the issue is so I am taking my camera to my teacher tomorrow to see if he knows. The last issue that we thought we were gonna have is capturing sound with only one directional microphone however on watching the footage the sound quality is really good. The issue with directional mics is they are very sensitive and so any other sound other than the band would be picked up to but luckily this was not an issue. As for lighting the stage was lite with quite a harsh blue light which affected some performances more than others but other than that lighting wasn't an issue.
The event overall went really well with only a few minor issues. Me and Alex also made a couple of contacts, the first of which being a women who came up to us and said she is from a small studio called Pocket Money Studio who are heavily linked to Eavis himself. Her name was Susan Ayton and she has added us both on Facebook and said that she organises a lot of the local music festivals and invites all the media people along and that she would start putting us on the list for those events. I also spoke to someone I know personally who happened to be picking up an award for best acoustic artist of the year and he said he is releasing a new single at the end of January/start of February and will be in touch about making a music video for that song.
