Blackout city Showreel (First Draft and Feedback)

Tom

I received feedback on my first draft quickly and the main issue both me and the band are aware of is that the audio quality is not good enough. They understand that it was a live gig and that there are many sounds going on all which mics and recorders pick up and this makes capturing good audio that’s not from the mixing desk on a live shoot very difficult. My mic sound was okay to edit to but it wasn't good enough to put out on the finished product so after speaking with the band they are going to re record the audio during one of their practice sessions at the end of the month and try and mimic the tempo as much as possible. Hopefully this will fix the issue however if they don’t get the tempo right the edits will no longer be on the beat and this is a major worry of mine that I’ve explained to them but they have said they will do the best they can.

They are however really impressed with the footage and in particular the quality of the close ups despite me struggling to keep out of the way of people dancing. They are also really happy with the direction the edit is going in but did request some changes. The main ones being they wanted a few more songs in it to showcase what they can do as a band. I explained how I was worried that adding more might make the showreel to long and boring for an audience. I was also worried that some of the shots might become to repetitive. We have come to an agreement to add two songs to the showreel and only the choruses of those songs. The songs they want me to add are Cupid and Kids in America taking the full showreel to around 4 minutes in length with 5 songs. Aside from that main change there are a couple of smaller things they want me to make for example checking some of the spellings and changing the text at the beginning to fantastically revisited covers from the 60s to the 10s. They have also sent me over a range of different logos that I can use for the end of the showreel which I think was needed and will help he showreel to feel more professional. I have set aside next week to complete these changes then the showreel will be all ready for me to just put the new audio in once they record it at the end of the month.

In conclusion the first draft was a success and the client is happy with the direction the product is going in. I have some small changes to make over the next week then it’s just a wait until they record the new audio and send it over. I am really happy with the communication and understanding between me and the client and feel positive that we I can make a really professional product for them.
