The original plan was to do a location recce and a few other things at 2-3pm and then return at around 7pm before the whole event starts to set up and then wait around until 9 when Blackout City were supposed to play. This was so me and my colleague didn't have to leave our equipment at the venue all afternoon and we would go back earlier to avoid being in anyone's way. These plans however changed as when I spoke to Rob (Lead guitar) before I left in the afternoon he said they (the band) wouldn't be going back until around 8pm and that it would be okay for us to arrive around then to set up but just be mindful of the other guests. We had no problems setting up when we arrived in the evening as the we had planned everything out before hand. We set up in good time but the event it self was running behind and the band didn't end up starting till an hour and a half after they were supposed to. We appreciated that this was through no fault of the bands and we were offered drinks by the band while we were waiting which was really kind of them. While I was waiting I tried to get to grips with the bassists audio recorder as it was not one I had used before but I didn't have much success. I ended up leaving it as it was really as I did not know what most of the settings did and I am not sure the bassist did either, this meant my plan B was called into action and me and my colleague used our directional mics as well to capture the sound in case the recording device didn't work properly. Thanks to a good amount of preparation the evening went fairly smoothly when things eventually got going and I was able to get a number of shots that I am really happy with. People did keep getting in the way of the wide shot but we did the best job we could and for a couple of the songs rather than have a wide shot I got my colleague to just get crowd shots.
In conclusion thanks to a good amount of planning the evening went smoothly and we will see when I come to edit shortly where I am at with things like sound quality.
