Evaluation: Part 1

My project has been up on various social media sites for a week now and I had hoped that this would be a good amount of time for people to view the project and complete the survey. The video itself has had 30 views in the week and at each place I posted the link to the video I also posted the link to the survey and asked people to complete the survey after watching the video however after looking at the responses only one person has filled out the survey. This is disappointing as I was really interested in seeing what people thought about the project as well as being excited to see what people thought about how relaxing (or not relaxing) the song weightless is. I wanted to be able to at this point break down the results of the survey and see if men found the track as relaxing as women did based on my survey however I now can't do this. My first thought on why people may not have filled out the survey was that maybe there was a glitch or the survey link didn't work but I spoke to the one person who did fill the survey in and they had no issues also no one came across to me and said there was an issue which makes me think apart from that one person no one else even tried to fill the survey out. This then lead me to think about how I could have distributed the project better but I am unsure how I could have done this as the piece is both on you tube and has an exclusive online only version encoded into a website so it was available at several different places. I do not really feel there was a lot more I could have done, In the future I would maybe think more about the target audience of my piece and think about how would be best to distribute a piece to that audience.

When it comes to finishing off the piece completely and making the final changes, I had hoped a guy called Mark would make a video for the project however after chasing him to make the video multiple times he has now stopped replying. As I mentioned in my last post my back up was to have my mum re film her clip but in landscape instead of portrait which she is in the process of doing and I hope to have the piece fully finished in the next few days. The whole conversation trying to get mark involved has got me thinking about how I worked in a team in this project and how I could have done in better. I spoke briefly before about how my project had to change as a result of the current pandemic that is going on but I do not feel I spoke in much detail about how the team working process was affected by the pandemic. Originally my piece was going to consist of seven old style CRT TV's six of which I was going to break down into pairs of two and have each pair facing each other with one TV in the middle. The middle TV was going to have the safety space/relaxing music playing on it but the other tvs were going to have characters talking about mental health issues and this breaks down like this:

Pair one: Conversation between a doctor and a student about eating disorders

Pair two: Conversation between a counsellor and a student about anxiety

Pair three: Conversation between a Careers guide and a student about the students worries about the future regarding their career

I had already outsourced an actor who was willing to play the role of the adult in each of the conversations and I was going to play the student. I was then planning to outsource costumes to help distinguish between each role. Due to the pandemic however it wasn't possible to sort costumes out and meet up with the actor so in a rush I changed my idea to an online only project and had to think about how I could still make the piece unique but by using people who were easier to contact. I came up with the idea of having people talk about their individual experiences with mental health issues so the piece became an amalgamation of personal experiences rather than just my experiences like it was originally. It was easy to get my mum involved as she was at home with me so that's why she was part of the piece then jesse (top middle clip) is in my class at uni and was free to facetime as well as having a lot to say with regard to his personal mental health struggles. I had also been having online uni classes and the teacher who is in my project I know he is interested on mental health and its effects on students so I knew he would be a great person to ask to be apart of the video. Once I then added my experience and had essentially completed the project that's when I thought that I could have taken this project further out and outsourced peoples opinion using facetime. That is why I then contacted Mark as I got advised by one of my teachers that he would be a interesting person to talk to, by this point though we get to where I am now and I am to close to the deadline to start outsourcing more people. Thinking about it now it is a shame as it would have been good to have a range of different people from different background opinions but at the time of this pandemic breaking out I was more concerned about changing my the idea of my project and making it online only. If I was to do the project again though I would look at outsourcing the people who participate in creating the project more.
